The natural vegetation includes mature oak trees and many saplings, which thrive on the high moisture content of the ground. A healthy English oak provides a habitat for nearly 200 different species and over 400 when it dies! Dead wood has not been cleared from this site for decades - supporting a healthy insect population and the birds which feed on them.
Local residents generously donated sufficient funds for Snailslynch Wood Community Project to complete the purchase of the land in March 2024. We now need enough members to ensure that the land remains a natural habitat and a community asset for years to come.
